Horses are among the few animals humans have a special connection with. Since they are so beloved, there’s bound to be plenty of video games featuring them. In the digital realm, horses are trusted steeds, powerful companions, and the stars of the show. Here are some horse-themed games to try out:

Red Dead Redemption

This game follows a former outlaw, John Marston, as he sets out to bring members of his former gang to justice. Different breeds of horses are pretty much the only means of transport. Each horse offers different attributes but they must be tamed to use them. Gameplay elements include horseback riding, hunting, shootouts, heists, maintaining the character’s honor through moral choices and deeds, as well as interacting with non-player character.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

In this game, the player improves skills by developing the character and completes quests with the hope of defeating Alduin the World-Eater. The horses in this series offer more than just transportation; they also help attack your enemies. The Shadowmere, one of the horses, is super fast, cool-looking, and very deadly, allowing it to overcome many monsters travelling throughout Skyrim.

H.O.R.S.E

This game is actually an acronym used to describe a combination of five poker games:

H – Hold’em
O – Omaha Hi/Lo
R – Razz
S – Seven card stud high
E – Eight-or-better (Seven card stud high-low)

This multi-game form of poker is commonly played in tournaments and at high-stakes table of casinos. Playing this game can be a great way for players to develop expertise in multiple games. This game is a bit complicated than regular poker.

Shadow of the Colossus

This game specifically features one horse –Agro. He isn’t just for transportation but a key factor in some of the game’s battles as well. He’s also the character’s companion throughout the forbidden lands in the game. The horse’s speed allows the character to speed up to an incredible gallop, keeping him safe and away from attacks.

Starters Orders

This is a horse racing management game series that many would describe as the football manager of horse racing. Here, you get to build up your own stables and train your string of horses to compete in races around the globe. You can also breed horses in the hope of them becoming the next big thing in horse racing. In addition, players can bet on races.

While horse riding can be a fantastic way of getting fit and having a fun-filled day for your loved ones, there are plenty of other ways that horses influence our lives. Not least, through the sport of horse racing. Horse racing was introduced into the UK in the 12th century, it’s history spans as far back as 648BC in the Greek olympics where chariot and horse back racing were just two of the events the athletes competed in. You can bet on four main types of racing – flat, endurance, trot and jump racing. These are competed over varying race lengths, with endurance races being the longest, sometimes reaching up to 100 miles in length. Trot racing is unique as the horses involved are harnessed to the jockey. Harnessed racing is not usually practiced here in the UK. Different type of bets are available, with the win bet being the easiest to comprehend. For a win bet you select a horse that you believe will come first in the race. For those who prefer a lower risk bet, or are not sure of the recent form of a horse you could also bet each way/place which pays out on the first three or four horses past the post, depending on the final number of horses in the race. For those who would rather pay less money for their bets but increase the potential returns you can try wagering on multiple horses through parlay betting. Parlay betting is where you can incorporate several bets into one, only paying out if all legs of the bet win. So, for example, if you were thinking of betting on the Ascot 2:10, 2:45 and 3:15 it should pay to pick the winners of all three races and combine into one bet rather than place three separate bets with individual stakes. The retusn can be very lucrative.
